San Sebastian is a quiet town in the north of Spain. It is a beach side resort town and is often visited by tourist year-round. It is known as a foodie town the world around and it has gained that reputation for good reason. It has an abundance of great restaurants many of which are Michelin star restaurants. There are more and more restaurants being added to the list of greats on a regular basis as well. They are bringing in a younger more urban vibe and changing up the scene of San Sebastian, many say it is for the better as well. Many of them are born and bred in this area of Spain and are putting a new spin on old flavours. There are so many fantastic restaurants to choose from when visiting San Sebastian that it can often be over whelming, well here are a few of the absolute best to hopefully make the challenge a little bit easier for you.

Bodegón Alejandro

Bodegón Alejandro

This restaurant is located very close to the Mercado de La Bretxa which is mainly why it grew in popularity. It was a great place for market workers, traders, and shoppers alike to stop in and get cheap but delicious foods. It has now been upgraded by chef Inaxio Valverde although he kept the original ideas of the restaurant in place, fresh foods straight from the market, served exceptionally well. As well as delicious dishes they have a selection of local cheese that should not be over looked. The decor lends to a dungeon vibe, its dark walls and old wooden tables will transport you back to the olden days. Great food, great history and great prices means this spot is not to be missed on your San Sebastian trip.

Txepetxa

If you like anchovies, which are one of those foods you wither love or hate, then Txepetxa is the place for you. The menu here puts anchovies in the leading role and lets them shine. And with the majority of the menu being pintxos, which are small servings typically on a slice of bread, you don’t have to choose which type of anchovy you’ll enjoy but rather you can enjoy several different ones. While the decor may not lead to think that this is a top restaurant the food will quickly convince you otherwise. Don’t pass this one up, you won’t regret it.

La Cuchara

La Cuchara

Not the most glamorous of restaurants, La Cuchara is a landmark nonetheless. The large portions and great prices may have something to do with that. Known for their pig ear or octopus they will charm you with their delicious foods and fantastic wines. They have become so well known for a reason, their great service only complements the great food. If you are in San Sebastian, you simply cannot miss this prime spot.

Any trip to San Sebastian is always a good one, and you will be pleased with the food regardless, but if you are able to enjoy a dish from one of these establishments, you will not be disappointed.
